Haiti - Environment : Ban on polyethylene and styrofoam products in schools...
Following the decree of 18 July 2013 prohibiting the production, import, marketing and use, iin any format whatsoever, of polyethylene bags and objects in expanded polystyrene (EPS or PS crystal or styrofoam), the General Directorate of the Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training (MENFP) inform all executives and employees of the MENFP that it is strictly forbidden to use trays, containers, plates and cups in foam as well as the polyethylene bags in the enclosure of public buildings and schools in general.

Technical Directors and departmental are invited to take all measures for the implementation of the decision of the Government.

Concerning the decree prohibiting the sale and marketing of products in polyethylene and polystyrene [styrofoam] Donald Parison, the Director General of the Metropolitan Service Solid Waste Collection (SMCRS) stated that the government would continue the operations of seizure until these products are no longer available on the market "The government is very serious about this [...] there will be no mercy for those caught using these products within the institutions of the State."
