Haiti - Security : End of a 5-month tour of the PNH in the Southeast
A police delegation headed by the Divisional Commissioner Frantz Elbe, Departmental Director of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) South-East and other agents as part of the Board, has completed a tour last week launched on March 13 in the region, through the 10 municipalities of the department.

Last Thursday, at a meeting with journalists, Frantz Elbe declared that the tour had allowed to visit all the police stations across the three arrondissements [Jacmel, Bainet et Belle-Anse], to better understand the situation in which the police operate and consider solutions to enable the institution to perform work more professional and efficient in the interest of the population.

According to Frantz Elbe, the major problems confronted by the PNH are : the reduced staff of officers in the police station and sub police station, the the lack of logistics and equipment. Among the areas where the situation is most critical Frantz Elbe mentioned the towns of Grand Gosier and Thiotte where infrastructure, such as roads are almost non-existent.

Stating that because of the magnitude of some difficulties encountered during this tour, which prevents agents to give satisfactory results in the exercise of their functions, a report will be prepared and delivered in a short time to the Directorate General of PNH for appropriate action.

In addition, the Divisional Commissioner Frantz Elba took advantage of this tour of five months to perform a supervisory visit to the military camps of the United Nations to the Haitian-Dominican border to see how they worked and the means they have. Noting that in the coming days, the peacekeepers who are on the border, will leave to make room to the police officers of the Departmental Unit Maintenance of Order (UDMO) South-East, which will control the border. According to Frantz Elbe, these police officers are now better prepared and trained to provide security at the border, noting that compared to the geographical position of the Municipality of Thiotte to the edge of the border, the permanent presence of agents of the UDMO would be conceivable.

Note that in the objective of harmonizing the relationship between the police and the public, the High Command of the PNH met during this tour, notable in almost all municipalities.
