Haiti - Culture : Haiti mourns the death of Tony Moïse

Former Haitian saxophonist of the musical group "Les Shleu Shleu" Tony Moïse, 75, a native of Cotes de Fer, died due to cardiovascular problems. In a statement Josette Darguste, the Acting Minister of Culture, said she was afflicted by this cruel and regrettable loss.

"The disappearance of this singer, saxophonist and composer with exceptional talent surprise and tears us the heart since we do not know that he was sick. Until recently, he continued, indeed, to distill, via social networks for the delectation of bulimic consumers of Compas, the egendary compositions of the rich discography of the band 'Shleu Shleu' carefully maintained and improved by his dexterity.

Tony's departure will leave without doubt, a difficult gab to fill in the Haitian cultural world. This is a piece of Haitian music of the 1960/1970 who will suffer because with him, retro compass, a fortiori that of the Shleu Shleu was always in the present tense. And good music, we say, is timeless.

The Ministry of Culture bows to the remains of the immortal Tony Moïse, founding member of Shleu Shleu while presenting his heartfelt condolences to all those who afflicts by this loss.

Tony was the heyday of "Les Shleu Shleu" announcing the rise of a new generation of musicians and neighborhoods group called "Mini jazz" in the 60s and 70s, beside Serge Rosenthal, Jean-Claude Pierre-Charles, Hans Chérubin, and Jean-Baptiste brothers. He has composed songs that have remained successful in the Haitian musical world as "Ti carme", "Dans la vie", "Partie de chasse", "Maille", "Devinez"...
