Haiti - Tourism : Development of the natural site Bassin Bleu of Jacmel

As part of the development project of the natural site Bassin Bleu of Jacmel, the Departmental Directorate of Tourism South East organized a meeting with the Mayor of Jacmel, the Delegation Southeast, the Committee of Organization for the Development of Basin Bleu of Jacmel (ODBJ) and the guides of Bassin Bleu.

Under the leadership of the Ministry of Tourism, activities of enhancing of the site will be undertaken in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Communication, the Mayor of Jacmel, the delegation of South East, the Civil Protection, the National Police of Haiti, the Tourist Association of the Southeast, the National Bureau of Ethnology, the Spanish Cooperation and local organizations.

First Interventions planned for the next 3 months :

  • Improving the reception to the public in order to inform, guide, recommend and also identify the site and enhance its content. This activity takes into account the work of installation of a traffic tourist signs (orientation panels located on the road) and an information and interpretive signage (panels located on the site) ;

  • Identification, selection and training of guides ;

  • The construction of an information kiosk at the entrance to the site

  • Improvement of road sections where the slopes are steep ;

  • Renovation and installation of equipment such as parking, sanitary facilities, shower, cloakroom, table ;

  • Valuation and site security ;

  • Creation of discovery trails around biodiversity ;

  • Cleaning operations of ponds ;

  • Repair of craft shops for selling souvenirs ;

  • Arrangements of banks of the "Nan Mondri" river, rest areas and picnic, pontoons, barriers of restriction of access to the cliffs etc...

  • Maintenance of footpaths hiking (installation of bins) ;

  • Capacity Building of Committee ODBJ ;

  • Preservation of the environment ; awareness among the population upstream of the site by communication activities related to the enhancement of the natural site, visitor awareness to help keep the site clean.
