Haiti - Literature : Evains Wèche Laureate of Literary Award, Henri Deschamps 2013

The Lucienne Deschamps Foundation announces that the jury selected as laureate of the Literary Award, Henri Deschamps 2013, Evains Wèche, native of Corail and residing in Jérémie for his collection "Le Trou du Voyeur".

According to the jury the work of this young writer "a search for originality, a daring game with the elements, a fluency and writing proficiency based on a remarkable economy of words. Themes of everyday are projected in a strange light that leads to the discovery of other dimensions behind what the eyes see [...] Evains wèche is, undoubtedly already a safe bet of Haitian letters."

Of 67 manuscripts received this year 2013, the jury of Henry Deschamps has selected six finalists apart the winner Evains Wèche, the jury also gave a special mention to Faubert Bolivar for his play "La Flambeau". Mr. Bolivar therefore receives the Special Prize Paulette Poujol Oriol and Georges Corvington.

The 4 other finalists manuscripts for the literary prize Henri Deschamps in 2013 were "Carnets de femmes" (novel) of Barbara Bastien, "Toussaint Louverture et ses fantômes" (theater) of Joseph Marie Saint Natus, "Une histoire de chiens et de chiennes" (novel) of Rodolphe Mathurin and "Territoire interdit" (novel) of Nedjmhartine Vincent.

The official awards ceremony will be held the third week of October 2013.
