Haiti - Economy : Laurent Lamothe renewed the budget 2012-2013

Tuesday, following the rejection by the Assembly of Senators of the report of the Senate Committee "Economy and Finance" on the draft Finance Bill 2013-2014, Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, after consultation with the President Michel Martelly, has decided to renew the 2012-2013 budget for the current fiscal year, in accordance with the Constitution and laws of the Republic.

With this decision, the Prime Minister, obviously wanting to avoid a confrontation with the Senate and a new crisis in the government, has taken the path of wisdom, preferring disown Wilson Laleau, Minister of Economy and Finance, who said last Thursday that the 2012-2013 budget would not be renewed and that the Executive would carry out the implementation of the new 2013-2014 budget, despite the rejection by the Senate. Statements that had lead to many and serious negative reactions in the political class.

However, in order to provide the country with a budget that meets the aspirations of the Haitian people, the Head of Government, indicated that it had begun a series of meetings with different political tendencies in the Senate, in order to lead to the vote on the draft Finance Bill 2013-2014 where national priorities in term of public policy are clearly defined.
