Haiti - Education : Back to School, Message to the Nation of President Martelly
In a pre-recorded message for back to school, the President Martelly officially launched this Monday, September 8, the opening of the new school year in Haiti.

Message of President Martelly :
"Haitian people

Since I made the commitment to run the business of the country, one of my highest priorities was to send all the children on school benches.

Three years later, this priority has not changed, because I continue to believe that education is the greatest tools we have in hand, to take out Haiti from all the difficulties it confronts today.

It is when we will come to make sit on the benches of the school all the children of country, that we may be able to offer all Haitians, regardless of their social and economic conditions, the same chance to build their future with respect and dignity.

This battle, I am committed without respite since the first day I took the oath to become the President of the country, and every day that passes, it is with more strength, conviction, courage, and more determination that I am working to see if we will succeed to give every child in the land of Haiti, a piece of bread of instruction. There work, but we know we do not have the right to fail, because the Haiti tomorrow, Haiti in 10-20 years, it is in our schools, it is in children, in our children that it will be built.

That is why, while I officially launched the opening of school today, I invite all parents, all community leaders, members of local government and all other organizations of civil society to
accompany me in my efforts to be able to send all children to school.

I think that we are able and we must successfully complete the program of free education for everyone.

Every sector of society, every corner in the country, every Haitian is concerned, we all need to do our part to win this bet.

We need to prioritize the interests and future of our children. We must invest ourselves unreservedly so that there is in the country, a school open to all, where both students and teachers are making efforts in the discipline and creativity, so that the light of knowledge burst forth for a better Haiti.

I know that at the time of the opening of classes, there are a lot of families, mothers and fathers who have problems because they do not afford to buy uniforms and books for children can go to school, I offer them all my support and solidarity at the same time I will make more effort with all sectors of education so that my administration can assist them by providing subsidies for school supplies and providing student transportation for free. [see note]

Education is the first condition for putting the country on the road to progress and development, it is the only path that can lead to change. That is what makes i'm greatly pleased today to see the school officially resume today. I encourage all parents to send their children to school because all the gourdes you spend in school, it is an investment that you make. It is insurance that you take, for you and for your children. And do not forget the proverb that says 'Pitit se baton vyeyès malere'. This is when children go to school, they will find a chance to build a better future to defend themselves in life, it is in school that everyone can find an opportunity to become independent, to be useful to his family, his children and his country tomorrow. It is the school that can make our dreams a reality.

Teachers, I promise you that I will work every day a little more, to improve your working conditions and the quality of education in Haiti.

I take advantage of the opening of the school year, to salute your courage and commitment you are making every day, to give children a good education to get out of ignorance, so that the society can move forward.

Children are the future of the country, so the country's future is in their hands. It is upon your shoulders that all the hopes to build another Haiti rests. I ask you to continue to make efforts to properly implement programs so that there is more success in state exams. I rely on you in the same way that all Haitian parents relies on you.

My children all over the country, from the first day of the opening of the school, I ask you all to take your school seriously, to go to school every day because it is a great opportunity you have to prepare your future. Study all your lessons, do all your homework as they should, in order to bring good results to your parents, who make sacrifices for you. I ask you throughout the year, to walk in order, in discipline and in compliance with all the rules that are established in your school. Because it's the only way to give yourself a chance to become an important citizen in the society.

With all my heart, I wish all the students, girls and boys, teachers, parents and all those who are involved in education, a good school year 2014-2015 filled with success.

Vive school
Vive Haiti

Thank you very much."

Note : As part of the subsidy and allocation of textbooks, 610 million gourdes are invested to produce about 3 million textbooks by 12 local publishers. Of these, 2,142,500 textbooks are intended for the market of the subsidy through the points of sale of the place. These books are subsidized at 70%. The remaining, 891,824, will go in allocation in public schools. Approximately 800,000 school kits will be distributed across the country. These kits contain include : a school bag, pen, pencil, eraser, notebooks and geometry instruments.
