Haiti - Politic : Martelly wants to make a
Michel Martelly, winner of the runoff election with 67.57% of the votes hopes to "be able to inspire the people to guide it on the right way". From the first day of his investiture on May 14, the future president wants to change the image of his country and make forget the cliches of a disaster victim country, which depends on international aid and which is struggling to recover from the earthquake of January 2010.

"We plan from the first days of our term to sell a new image of Haiti" declared Michel Martlelly Wednesday at his campaign headquarters. A task that will not be easy in a country described as the poorest of the hemisphere and considered as the "Republic of NGOs" because of its extreme dependency.

"In the past the State has exploited the population. Civil servants have grown rich. They have lost the sense of what is public function. Public function means service to the population" said Martelly, who wants to transform Haiti from development basket case to Caribbean "success story".

On land issues, Martelly explined "The simplest solution is that if there is a major investment project that will create a lot of jobs, and if it happens there is a conflict on that land, the State will declare the land of public domain. The government will facilitate the establishment of the enterprise".

A declaration which aims to halt land conflicts motivated by financial gain, private interests that interfere with recovery. A temporary solution where government authority is undoubtedly essential, but that should not obscure the need to quickly develop a modern cadastre to end these land conflicts, rotting for years, the lives of our compatriots and prevents the development of Haiti.

For the President Martelly, there is no doubt that "Haiti is a rich country, which has not been exploited yet".
