Haiti - Elections : Pierre-Louis Opont disclaims responsibility
In an interview on a radio of the capital, Pierre Louis Opont, Director General of the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) announced that its responsibility under the Electoral Law, stopped to the publication of preliminary results and that he was not involved in the final results released by the CEP accused of fraud and corruption "I have no control, no authority. When we talk about the final results, this is the responsibility of judges of electoral dispute. My responsibility ended with the publication of preliminary results on April 4"

A few days before publication of final results, Opont explains that he proposed to publish partial results, a proposal that aimed to "avoid any precipitation because there could be verifications to the Tabulation Center." It is finally this proposal which was adopted by the CEP.

The Director General of the CEP is favorable to the establishment of a commission of investigations to shed light on the facts and the responsibilities, stating that "this is a electoral apparatus where it is claimed that decisions were monetized, Final decisions are not what they should be. The results do not respect the vote expressed it is an extremely complex case that goes beyond a corruption case" he explained, dismissing the idea of an intervention of the Unit for Combating Corruption (ULCC) in this case.
