Haiti - Cap-Haïtien : Laying of the first stone of the Solid Waste Management project
Monday December 11, 2023 took place the ceremony of laying the first stone for the construction work of a modern temporary trench for the recovery and management of solid waste in the locality of Mouchinette, in Limonade (North) pending completion of the mega municipal solid waste management and wastewater treatment project which will take 3 years. This ceremony took place in the presence of local personalities, Government representatives and representatives of civil society.

The Mayor of Cap-Haitien, Madame Yvrose Pierre, during her intervention highlighted the importance of this initiative for the sustainable future of the municipalities of Cap-Haitien, Quartier-Morin and Limonade. She launched a passionate call for collective action, inviting local businesses, engaged citizens and organizations to join this crucial initiative recalling that "The success of the project will depend on the participation of the entire community, thus creating a synergy between government, the private sector and civil society."

Let's remember that this is the "Boukannen Tann Bouyi" pilot project which will be carried out on an area of at least 10,000 m2 which will be developed. This project financed to the tune of 1.5 million US dollars comes from a donation of 33.5 million dollars from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) for Solid Waste Management in Northern Haiti (GDSNH Project).

The "Société Anonyme Mixte de Gestion Propreté et Public Services" ensures the development of the GDSNH project in concert with the Town Halls of Cap-Haïtien, Quartier-Morin, Limonade, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the North (CCIN), and of the Northern Destination Management Organization (OGDNH) since the launch of the project in 2018 (delayed due to a land problem on the project site https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-27664-haiti-environment-a-$335m-project-blocked-by-a-land-conflict.html ).
