Haiti - Diplomacy : The President Martelly met several African Heads of State
During his participation in the 14th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Francophonie, in Kinshasa, which ended Sunday, the President Michel Martelly met with several of his African counterparts in the framework of the bilateral cooperation of States and Governments Member with Haiti, in order to find better alternatives to institutional development, for the benefit of the Haitian community in Haiti and abroad.

The consolidation of institutions, the appointment of members of the Court of Cassation, the necessity of rapprochement of Haiti to Africa, were among the issues discussed at a meeting of the Head of State of Haiti, with the President of the Republic of Ivory Coast, Mr. Alassane Ouattara, who, for known and worked in Haiti through the IMF, took the opportunity to congratulate the President of Haiti, of the changes made in Haiti.

Largest producer of cocoa in the region and third in coffee, the Côte d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast) considering the possibility of a framework agreement of cooperation in the field of Agriculture and Energy, whose the Ivorian expertise could benefit Haitian professionals. The President Martelly told the local press "I expressed my feelings to President Ouattara about my presence here, on African soil. In Haiti, we are the children of Africa, it is important that we get closer [...] Haiti represents the Africa of the Caribbean, it is the African blood that flows in our veins."

With the Senegalese President, Macky Sall, the President Martelly held talks on the case of Haitian scholarship students who are currently studying in Senegal. The Senegalese Head of State promised to visit Haiti before the end of its mandate and discussed the possibility of developing a special cooperation with Haiti.

The President also met the President of Guinea, Alpha Condé, on a series of bilateral issues in the areas of, among others, agriculture and education, the President of Guinea has pledged to develop the cooperation with Haiti, that he considered as the representative of the Africa in America "[...] I told the President that when we got our independence in 1958, [...] it is a just return of things that the Guinea today, opens its arms to Haiti. especially since the President has engaged in a real development policy of the education and energy. I promised to make a trip to Haiti next year, but now our ministers will meet. Guinea will do everything so that Haiti, the first black republic and the only black republic especially in America, is a beacon in this continent, that it no longer behind, but ahead."

"[...] We have our problems, Africa too, but together we are stronger and we can share experiences, so we agreed for the Foreign Ministers of the two countries meets, and develop a framework agreement so that we can explore some tracks [...]" declared the President Martelly.

With his counterpart from Benin, Mr. Yayi Boni, the two heads of state discussed several issues including the revival of bilateral cooperation between Haiti and Benin, and the situation of Haitian students in Benin "We are with you wholeheartedly ! Anything that struck Haiti hit the continent, and also strikes Benin !" stressed the President Yayi Boni, who already sees cooperation in the development of military engineering, urban sanitation and health insurance programs. Beninese President also plans a summit meeting to define the terms of a cooperation aimed at integrating Haiti into full development policies in order to allow its appropriation of mechanisms experienced by Benin.
