Haiti - Diplomacy : Imperial audience of presidential couple
Friday, in the framework of his official visit to Japan, the president Michel Martelly and the First Lady, Ms. Sophia Martelly, were received in audience at the Imperial Palace, by their Majesty Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko Shoda.

This is the first time a Head of State of Haiti was received by His Majesty Akihito, who according to the Shinto tradition, is the 125th Emperor of Japan, from the line Yamato, the oldest dynasty in the world. This meeting was held behind closed doors.

Subsequently, the presidential couple visited Sendai, in the Tohoku region, for a visit of solidarity in this region strongly affected by the earthquake and tsunami of March 11, 2011.



In an interview with the local press, the Head of State expressed his sympathies to the people affected of this region and laid wreaths at the scene of the event.

In addition, Sophia Martelly, was received at first byHer Imperial Highness, Princess Hanako Masahito Hitachi, then by the Japanese First Lady, Mrs. Hitomi Noda around laws on the integration of people with disabilities, of the civil protection and the environment.
