Haiti - Economy : President Martelly guest of honor at a business dinner in Tokyo

This Friday at Tokyo, the President Michel Martelly, accompanied by Pierre Richard Casimir, Minister of Foreign Affairs, of Wilson Laleau, Minister of Trade and Industry, and Gregory Mevs, Co-Chair of the Presidential Advisory Council for Economic Development and Investment (CCPDEI), was the guest of honor of Mr. Yoshihisa Veda, Representative of the Interamerican Development Bank (IDB) in Asia and of Japanese private sector during a business dinner held at the Hotel Imperial.

The President and his interlocutors discussed of investments, sustainable development, of opportunities to share experiences and commercial exchanges in order to establish of partnerships and joint ventures, the best answers to the challenges of globalization.

At the beginning of his speech, the Head of State explained, that he had made this trip "to better understand and especially discuss on what is based the success of your country, that others call the Japanese miracle [...] The rules of the World Trade Organization (WTO) open opens us, as LDCs [Less Developed Countries], all world markets in a privileged way, as evidenced by treaties and agreements with Europe, the United States, Canada and CARICOM, that offer the entry of Haitian products, to the most advantageous pricing conditions," emphasized the President of the Republic, noting that his Government, has made of this strategic advantage, the spearhead of its economic policy.

According to President Martelly, trade relations with Japan, should be part of a shared commitment of development, of strategic repositioning and rebalancing. The rendezvous with history, it is now," he concluded.

The President believes that this business dinner was an opportunity for Haiti to present to the Japanese private sector, as well as IDB Representative in Asia, clear signals such as the modernization of the legal framework for business, the implementation of CCPDEI, the creation of Caracol Industrial Park and the reduction in the time of creation of companies. As many measures to facilitate foreign investment in Haiti.
