Haiti - Tourism : Official launch of project «Tourist destination Ile-à-Vache»
Tuesday in Ile-à-Vache, the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, in the presence of Stéphanie Balmir Villedrouin, the Minister of Tourism, of Secretaries of State of Public Works and Plant Production, respectively Philippe Cinéas and Fresnel Dorcin, the Deputy Jean Fenel Tanis [riding Cayes / Ile-a-Vache], officially launched the tourism development project of the island, one of the largest and most ambitious projects of the quinquennium of President Michel Martelly, valued at over $230 million U.S. dollars.

The project, "Tourist destination Ile-à-Vache", to which commit the Government Martelly-Lamothe, under the tourism development plan, implemented by the Ministry of Tourism plans to undertake major projects including : the construction of an international airport with a runway of 2.6 km; the construction of the road that leads to it; harbor dredging ; electrification and lighting of the surrounding area and the construction of several hotels-resorts (1,000 rooms), 2,500 villas (condo), a community center, a community radio station, an Emergency center, and the development of agricultural infrastructure.

The Prime Minister took the opportunity to proceed with the laying of the foundation stone of a multipurpose community center of 120 m2 that the Lamothe Government wants to associate to the tourism development plan of the island. This center, whose construction will be completed in October, will host a library, reading room, a playroom, of entertainment and a café. 15 kilometers of road have already been built, while the construction work the runway of the Ile-à-Vache International Airport have already started.



According to the Head of Government, the development of local agricultural production is necessary for the implementation of this development project. Thus, the Government, under the Ministry of Agriculture has developed an agricultural plan, which provides the implementation of an irrigation system, construction of small lakes, the installation of a Center of water treatment in the event of discovery of brackish water. The agricultural plan also aims to promote local production, which will promote the development of fruit growing. The aim is also to develop aquaculture and fishing capacity on the high seas. In addition, by September, the government will begin the rehabilitation of two mangroves of the island.



In the framework of the "Tourist destination Ile-à-Vache" tenders for local and international investments have already been launched. Four major groups in the tourism industry, have already expressed their interest to come and invest on the island.

Taking advantage of his visit, the Prime Minister, who went to the encounter of inhabitants of Ile-à-Vache to listen to their concerns and said he was committed to the makes of the Ile-à-Vache, one of the most beautiful and biggest tourist attractions in the country and the Caribbean "I appeal to your pride, your dignity. Here you have the most beautiful island of the Caribbean, it is a paradise and the administration Martelly and my Government will make every effort to develop and make it a major pole of international tourist attraction."
