Haiti - Tourism : Overview of the tourism sector in Haiti 13/11/2013 12:12:51 The Minister revealed that on nearly 8,200 hotel rooms, the Ministry had classified [Label hibiscus] nearly 4,150 rooms across the country, adding that the rooms unclassified will also be considered based on other criteria. Announcing that by 2017, more than 3,000 additional rooms will be built in Haiti. The Minister Viilledrouin recalled that its Ministry brought a continuous support to investors noting also that many projects financed by public funds, are being implemented to facilitate private investment in priority areas. Quoting : [in short] the rehabilitation of Reception center of Choiseuil, of the tourism office of Ouanaminthe, the construction of kiosks for beaches of Raymond les bains, of craft market of Cap Haitian involving the construction of a sixty booths, the repair of roads giving access to the Grotto Marie Jeanne, the construction work of the Landing of Baie de l'Acul [completed], the transformation of old houses in Jacmel in guest rooms. Concerning the tourist destination of Jacmel, Stéphanie Villedrouin indicated investment of 8 million U.S. dollars on a planned total of 20 million, are made in the historic center, amount that also includes the construction of 200 hotel rooms, adding that discussions were underway with investors to raise the remaining amount and that the construction of the convention center and a public square continued apace. About tourism development of Côte de fer, the Minister said that the private sector project the construction of an international airport, a shopping center, a golf course, two hotels 5 star of 400 bedroom each and a tourist avenue of 2.5 km. For the development project of the Ile-à-Vache, Ms. Villedrouin said that the ecosystem of the East Point will be preserved [mangrove habitat of fish]. She also mentioned the construction of a 17 km road that will connect the island from east to west. Stating that the Western Part of the island [45 km2] is devoted to the development of hotels and other tourist facilities and services [water, energy etc...] In addition the Minister has confirmed the start of construction of the airport runway in January 2014 which will complete at the end of the same year. Up to 10 beaches will be developed as part of this project and by the end of 2013, a timetable for construction of the first hotels will be published.
