Haiti - Religion : The President Martelly personally thanked the Pope Francis
Monday President Michel Martelly, held talks with the Holy Father about the elevation to the dignity of Cardinal of Mgr Chibly Langlois, Bishop of Les Cayes. During this cordial phone conversation, the Head of State has sent his warmest thanks to Pope Francis, for having shown listening to the needs and legitimate aspirations of the people and the Church of Haiti.

He also conveyed his compliments in a statement to the new Cardinal of Haiti "On behalf of the Haitian people in general and Catholic Christians in particular, the Head of Statetransmits at the same time, his compliments to His Eminence Chibly Longlois, originally from the Valley of Jacmel, which became the first Haitian cardinal in the history of the Catholic Church, and wish him much success in the framework of this new step in his ecclesial life."

Remember that Sunday, January 12, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship, after warmly congratulate Monseigneur Langlois for this great mark of distinction and expressed his sincere wishes for success in his new functions with heavy responsibilities, had underlined that "accession to the Roman Curia of a Haitian ecclesiastical is a great news for the Haitian Catholic Clergy, for the Haitian Catholic community, but also and especially for the Haitian nation as a whole which, over two years, is committed to the path of moral rebuilding, citizens and of economic and social development." Recalling that this issue had been on the agenda of the meeting that the President Martelly had with Pope Benedict XVI, at Vatican November 22, 2012.

Note that the official ceremony of inauguration of Mgr Langlois Chibly as Cardinal is scheduled for February 22, 2014 at the Vatican.
