Haiti - Economy : Significant material damage to Frager plant, of vetiver oil extraction

On Tuesday, the Ministry of Trade and Industry has learned with dismay the sinister that broke to the vetiver oil extraction plant of the Company Agri-Supply, better known under the name of Frager, in Les Cayes, in the heart of the main production region of vetiver, which stretches from Port-Salut to Aquin

With 38 stills and 5 boilers, the plant Frager increased its production capacity in ten years from 20 to 60 tonnes per year, making it the largest producer of essential oil of vetiver, key component of fine perfumes and industrial fragrances. Frager which produces more than 60% of the Haitian production employs 27,000  families that cultivate vetiver and became the

vital link for the perfumery industry's and the  leading producer and exporter of vetiver essential oil in the world.

The material damage are significant, according to the finding of a team of MCI dispatched on Tuesday evening.

In a note , the Ministry of Commerce and Industry "wants on this occasion to express solidarity with the company Agri-Supply and the people of South and took the opportunity to reaffirm the whole government support for this strategic sector the national economy."

For his part Pierre Leger, the owner of the Agri-Supply Company, thanked all the people of South and local authorities for their invaluable assistance during this incident. Thanks to the support of all, the fire could be mastered and although important the damage are limited "I thank all partners and friends who have called from all over Haiti and abroad to express their sympathy and solidarity. A special thanks to all the craftsmen and technicians came early Wednesday from Les Cayes and Port-au-Prince to offer their services free of charge and which are at work to repair..."

"Your solidarity is a testimony of ownership of the factory which is a common heritage of the Southern Department and the entire country. This is also a reason of encouragement for the Léger family that is etermined to put the plant into operation without delay, for the greater good of the people of Les Cayes, South Department and the vetiver sector," informed Franck and Joan Léger of Agri-Supply.

It is good to remember that  Wilson Laleau, Minister of Commerce and Industry, recently presented a plaque of honor to Pierre Léger, for his contribution to the promotion of domestic production and the radiation of Haiti abroad.
