Haiti - Social : Official Launch of Carnival activities
Friday, at a cocktail evening, which this year replaced the traditional ball of queens, the President Michel Martelly, proceeded at the launch of Carnival activities in Gonaïves, during a ceremony held at the office of the Divisional Delegation of Artibonite, in the presence, among others of : Mayor of the City, Steeven Saint-Fleur, the Departmental Delegate, Jean Auguste Michel, Josette Darguste, the Acting Minister of Culture, members of the carnival Committee, designers and stylists Haitians who participated in the realization of costumes.

In his speech, the Head of State thanked the organizers of the Carnival 2014 for the tremendous work they have done, better sell the beauty, the natural, cultural and touristic wealth of region of country, an opportunity for Haiti to attract tourists and benefit from positive impacts.



He expressed hope that the city of Gonaives takes full advantage of these benefits and recalled that the Government had disbursed during the Carnival 2014, more than U.S. $ 5 million to enable Gonaïves (Head of the department of Artibonite ) to benefit from major infrastructure projects (construction, repair of roads and development of tourist sites in the city...) likely to improve the living conditions of the population.

31 Queens and 34 Kings in costumes, which will occupy 8 allegorical floats [chars of Bicentennial, of the Presidency, the National Bank of Credit, violence against women, AIDS and the Ministries of Culture, Tourism and Agriculture] were presented to the Head of State.



Dozens of masked groups, 15 walking bands and 18 musical groups will parade during the three days fat (2,3 and 4 March 2014) in a decor putting in value with dignity our cultural identity and tourism potential of the Artibonite Department.

President Martelly took the opportunity to urge all revelers, to cultivate the spirit of fraternal solidarity, according to this year's theme "Tèt Kole pou yon Ayiti pi Djanm".
