Haiti - Security : Implementation of the agreement of Jimani

Monday, Dominican Major General Julio César Souffront Velásquez, President of the National Directorate for Drug Control [Dirección Nacional de Control de Drogas (DNCD)] and Commissioner Godson Orélus, Director General of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) examined at the headquarters of the DNCD, the agreements concluded on February 3 in Jimani (Dominican Republic), under the binational dialogue between the two governments on the fight against drug trafficking and money laundering. https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-10446-haiti-politic-2nd-meeting-with-dominican.html https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-10474-haiti-economy-fight-against-smuggling-bilateral-agreement.html

During the meeting the two men reiterated the good and firm commitment of both countries to unite their efforts to cooperate in order to achieve better results.

Souffront Velázquez reaffirmed the commitment of his Agency, to assist Haiti in terms of logistics, communication and information exchange. In addition, he announced the making available to the Haitian authorities, of , Canine Training Center (Centro de Entrenamiento Canino - K-9) ; ofoperational and logistical capacity; of the Academy of training of Haitian anti-drug agents and other useful ways to effectively fight against narco-trafficking jointly. "You can rely on our entire logistics for the detection of these illegal products and the fight against cartels, which seeking to use our two countries as a bridge for the passage of their goods [...]" adding that "to defeat this scourge, we must be permanently integrated in a joint effort with an insular view of the problem."

For his part, Godson Orélus expressed his gratitude for "the unwavering demonstration of generosity and goodwill of the DNCD to help Haiti in this struggle," in addition to strengthening the ties of cooperation in various fields.

Following the meeting, the two men toured various departments of the DNCD, the Department of International Cooperation (Dirección de Cooperación Internacional), a division in which the Haitian government can permanently assign a police officer of liaison, according to the agreement signed in February.
