Haiti - Education : The new Minister of Education at work

Thursday Nesmy Manigat, the new Minister of National Education and Vocational Training (MENFP) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-10876-haiti-politic-the-e-of-education-is-the-basis-for-the-future-of-the-country-dixit-nesmy-manigat.html [installed April 3], held an important working session with several academic partners from Europe, the United States, Latin America and the Caribbean as well as representatives of UNESCO, the Agency Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF) and the Kellogg Foundation, around of perspectives of cooperation between Haiti and its partners for the modernization of higher education and the education system in general.

Presenting their institution and collaboration already committed to certain levels with the Ministry, these partners have, on the whole, expressed their availability and willingness to work with the MENFP and Haitian universities to support the rebuilding of the sector.

For his part, the Minister Manigat said support this cooperation already initiated under previous administrations, especially with the establishment of the Inter-University Consortium for Strengthening the Education Sector in Haiti (CIRSEH) highlighting "The partnership can help moving in the right direction [...] I take a bandwagon and I wish to continue this collaboration started."

Narcisse Fièvre, Member of Cabinet of Minister, who attended the meeting, agreed in the sense of continuity "we continues to focus on what is involved, if there are adjustments to be made, they will be in the way [...]"

The Minister also stressed the importance of decentralization of public services in higher education with the creation of Public Universities in Regions (UPR), which must play their role by contributing in the production of skills and knowledge for development. According to him, the Haitian University must connect to public policies and be useful in developing the country.

Thanking the partners came in large numbers to participate in National Conference on Quality Education (April 8 to 11) to feed the reflection to improve the quality of education and modernization of higher education in Haiti, the Minister spoke of "a favorable momentum" for the overhaul of the education sector in Haiti, with the involvement, commitment and determination of all stakeholders.
