Haiti - Justice : The Minister of Justice condemns the violence of the opposition demonstration 30/04/2014 09:23:35 The facts : Monday, responding to the call of the "Patriotic Movement of the Democratic Opposition" (MOPOD), which brings together the main opposition parties and the "Patriotic Force for the Respect of the Constitution" (FOPARC) [close to Famni Lavalas], several hundred protesters marched to demand among other things, the resignation of President Martelly. On the course the protesters erected barricades of burning tires and have become increasingly violent at the approach of Champ de Mars, where they encountered a large police presence. Jet stone and bottles, under tear gas, protesters frustrated at not being able to complete their demonstration, burned a vehicle and broken the windshields of many private vehicles before being dispersed by security forces. Much damage has been reported both on private property than on the public road. Tuesday, after this day of violence, Jean Renel Sanon, the Minister of Justice and Public Security in a press note has vehemently condemned the serious violations of public order "The good health of democracy as well as minimum requirements of the rule of law, can not tolerate that peaceful citizens are systematically terrorized and their vehicles vandalized by protesters ignoring the basic principles of tolerance and ideological pluralism. The Ministry of Justice and Public Security, can not for any reason sit facing these dishonest actions of thesepseudo democrats, threatening one of the basic tasks of the state: guaranteeing public order and peace. Accordingly, formal instructions have been passed to the prosecuting authorities to put public action against all troublemakers who before the cameras of the world, have only tarnish the country's image and violently impose their erroneous vision of democracy. While apologizing to the citizens victims of these barbaric acts, the Ministry of Justice and Public Security reminds everyone that freedom of expression is a fundamental right whose enjoyment requires, inter alia, the respect of life and property of others."
