Haiti - Politic : President Martelly held talks with Ban Ki-moon

Monday at the National Palace, President Michel Martelly, received the Secretary General of United Nations Ban Ki-moon, as part of an official visit to Haiti.

To the Summary of discussions between the Head of State and the Secretary General of the United Nations, the political dialogue; the eradication of cholera in Haiti, including the possibility of a significant support from the UN to the initiative of the Ministry of Health and the electoral process. On this last point, the Head of State has not failed to remind his many political concessions and all the steps he has taken, including the El Rancho dialogue, in order to facilitate the holding of elections, the October 26.

The Head of State took advantage of this meeting to express, to the UN high-ranking official, the desire of the Government of Haiti that the preferred option for the following engagement of the UN in Haiti, takes into account the real needs of security in the implementation of the Consolidation plan of the Minustah, emphasizing on the direct involvement of Haitian institutions in the implementation of programs and projects of the UN system in Haiti.

President Martelly reiterated his desire to see the orderly withdrawal of the Minustah and its reconfiguration as a development tool; the inclusion in the Un support for Haiti, of a technical assistance component to the drinking water supply across the country and the integration of a more representative number of senior officials of Haiti to the United Nations at all levels, taking into account the fact that the quota for Haiti has not been filled.

Following this meeting, in the presence of the representative of the Secretary General, Ms. Sandra Honoré, the Under-Secretary-General Hervé Ladsous, the Ministers of Health, Dr. Florence Guillaume Duperval and Justice, Me Jean Renel Sanon, the Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, in a joint press conference with the Head of State, reassured on the continued support of the United Nations to the stabilization in Haiti. "I notes that the efforts of Haiti and its partners have borne great fruit. Great progress has been made under your administration, despite considerable economic difficulties. Access to health, economic activity recovery, ongoing projects, the dynamic relocation of earthquake victims are already good strides made ​​by this Government," wishing also that the powers sit together to find the political stability necessary for the organization of elections in Haiti in October. "Haiti continues to need international solidarity to support its development and I strongly support this initiative," concluded the Secretary General of the United Nations.
