Haiti - Education : Towards the adoption of major provisions for the new academic year 06/08/2014 11:56:56 The review of the main achievements of the 2013-2014 year, the official examinations, the state of completion of the correction process, the publication of results, the teaching profession, the school year, are among other major topics discussed during this major orientation meeting of the academic year. Grouped into three main areas of intervention, targeted by the Ministry through the Operational Plan 2010-2015, namely quality, access and governance, discussions helped to take stock of the strengths and weaknesses of the system and mainly produce a series of recommendations in the perspective of new arrangements currently being adopted for the proper functioning of the education system. Among the concerns expressed, the Minister of Education, Nesmy Manigat stressed "the need to regulate the teaching profession for a real quality control so sought after in the sector and the identification and accreditation of all schools in the country, prove to be an urgent need," stressing that the reform of the education system needs to emerge from these fundamentals. So he proposes to set up a mechanism for allocation of teaching permit, upon the profile of the individual approved by the Ministry. Also being a major concern for the minister, the strengthening of the process of certification and the accreditation of schools "I think it really came time to make courageous decisions that are in the direction of nevermore. We must end this practice, where anyone enters the classroom as a teacher," saying aware that such decisions will not be unanimity... Following the working meeting, a Monitoring Committee for the measures adopted and the development of the final report was created. In addition, several major decisions concerning, inter alia, the national system of state examinations will be announced shortly, as well as accompanying measures to facilitate the implementation of these new provisions.
