Haiti - Security : It's the Dominican Army that captured Clifford Brandt !
Tuesday at a press conference given at the Primature, the Government welcomed the capture of Clifford Brandt, whose arrival in Port-au-Prince was expected around 8:00 p.m... The Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe declared "The President of the Republic and me, we are glad that Clifford Brandt was captured. We were confident in the ability of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) to apprehend him. We congratulate the members of the Superior Council of the National Police (CSPN) and all units of the National Police that have put in place safe strategies to achieve this. I gave formal instructions to the PNH so that mobilization will continue until all the other escapees were captured and returned behind bars," stressing "safety in prison facilities has been strengthened to such an event does not happen again", particularly referring to the next installation of cameras inside the penitentiaries and wearing electronic bracelet, while assuring the population that the Government will continue to work tirelessly with our partners to ensure the stability and security climate in the country.

After the first confusing hours that followed the capture of Clifford Brandt and three other escapees the sequence of events and the role of the PNH and the Dominican army becomes clearer. We now know that Clifford Brandt and two other escapees were captured between Jimani and Hondo Valle, by the Dominican army and not by the PNH as was suggested by the statements of the Prime Minister in the first hours after the capture of Clifford Brandt, before nuancing a little later, indicating that this capture was the result of cooperation between the police forces of the two countries...

To make things clear, note that the Minister of the Dominican Defense, Admiral Sigfrido Pared Pérez declared Tuesday evening that the Dominican army had captured the fugitive Clifford Brandt, with two other inmates escaped with him last Sunday of the Prisonof Croix-des-Bouquets. He explained that it's a an army patrol stationed on the border between Jimani and Hondo Valle, who led the operation that led to the capture of fugitives. Admiral Pérez clarified that the Haitian authorities asked that the 4 escapees be returned to them, which was done in Jimani, given the sensitivity of the case.

Clifford Brandt and 2 other escapees were transported by helicopter to the Toussaint Louverture International Airport where he landed shortly before 8:00 pm. A Dominican liaison officer accompanied the Head of Haiti's judicial police before being handed over to their arrival to officers of the Brigade of Research and Intervention (BRI) and then taken to the Central Directorate of the Judicial Police (DCPJ ). In the conference room of the DCPJ, facing the cameras and microphones, Clifford Brandt, harassed by questions from journalists has remained silent on his escape with only an "I am not obliged to speak." We will not learn anything more about his escape from him or the other three escaped.

Godson Orélus, Director of the PNH praised the cooperation between the Haitian and Dominican authorities acknowledging that "it is thanks to the Dominican authorities, the fugitives have been caught."

Furthermore, he announced that "all the police guarding the prison on the day of the escape are already subject to sanctions. Some will be removed, others will be brought in front of justice ", promising significant changes within the police jurisdiction of Croix-des-Bouquets.

Two days after the spectacular escape, a complete list of the 329 escapees have so far not been communicated by the Haitian police, while well-informed source, the Dominican police force would already have the list of escapees.

Recall that so far, 19 escapees were taken and more than a hundred suspects have been apprehended and questioned by the National Police, which seeks to identify among the suspects, the escaped from the Penitentiary Croix-des-Bouquets.
