Haiti - Security : Escape of Clifford Brandt, the Manhunt is open
In a short statement to the press on Sunday afternoon, before the Police Station of Croix-des-Bouquets, the Inspector Garry Desrosiers, Deputy Spokesman of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) confirmed that Placide Wilfrid, agent 2 of the National Penitentiary Administration (APENA) was shot and wounded during the escape; He also said that Roodly Ethéard aka "Sonson la familia" was still in his cell, ending rumors that suggested otherwise.
He indicated that 13 escaped prisoners had been captured and that a manhunt was initiated by the specialized units to meet other prisoners on the run. He said that special security arrangements were in force throughout the metropolitan area and that the order had been given by the High Command of PNH, to close the and and sea borders. The embassies were also notified of the escape.
Inspector Desrosiers has promised to provide adetailed report on the number of escapees. We can only wonder that in the afternoon of Sunday, the authorities are not able to provide the exact number of escapees. Unless substantial administrative shortcoming, unlikely, we can only emit the hypothesis that the number of escapees is important, hence the lack of communication on the number of escapees, not to upset the population.
Furthermore, the Spokesman of PNH rejected the hypothesis of a commando that attacked the Penitentiary of Croix-des-Bouquets as suggested by numerous testimonials from the population, claiming that this escape was organized from the inside with the complicity of some agents of the APENA "It's a conspiracy carried out inside the prison that allowed the escape," specifying that 4 penitentiary agents and 2 nurses had been taken hostage by inmates during the escape.
The Secretary of State for Communication Hérold Israël announced that "the Responsible for the prison of Croix-des-Bouquets is placed in Custody," a Commission of Inquiry has also been formed to determine the circumstances of the escape.
The Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, also Chief of the Supreme Council of the National Police (CSPN) chaired late afternoon an emergency meeting of the CSPN at the police station of Croix-des-Bouquets, which brought together the Minister of Justice, Minister of the Interior, the Secretary of State for Public Security, the Chief of the National Police and the Chief Inspector General
"Many arrests have been made in the town of Croix-des-Bouquets. We continue to seek the understanding and cooperation of all citizens "adding that" instructions have been passed to law enforcement to find all the escapees and put them behind bars [...] A reward is offered to anyone with information that will help find the gang leader Clifford Brandt," declared the Prime Minister.
