Orélus Godson, head of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) went to the Senate of the Republic, accompanied among others by Marjorie Saint-Jean, director of the National Penitentiary Administration (APENA), to respond to a convocation of the Justice and Security Committee, about the circumstances surrounding the escape of 329 prisoners from the prison of Croix-des-Bouquets August 10.

Godson Orélus recalled having "registered exactly the escape of 329 prisoners out of a total of 899 prisoners," adding that steps have been taken by the Superior Council of the National Police (CSPN) to recall and make available to the general inspection of the National Police of Haiti (IGPNH) all agents who were present at that time to secure the prison, he also indicated that all responsibles of the police station of the area have also been made available to the IGPNH.

According to the head of the PNH police authorities of the zone are involved in one way or the other "We considered it is impossible that so many prisoners escaped without any knowledge of the main police authorities of the zone" adding contrary to facts reported at the time of the escape there is not an external attack that favored the escape of prisoners "everything happened inside the prison with the complicity of prison officials (guards...)."

Godson Orélus also indicated that 2 investigations were initiated by the IGPNH and 20 agents are now in segregation, including the head of that prison.

To date of yesterday Wednesday, there were 66 fugitives recovered by police authorities, Godson Orélus believes that it will take about two months and a half for all the escapees were caught and put back behind bars.

Senator Pierre Francky Exius, president of the Justice and Security Committee said that the latter will soon questioned the CSPN in the context of this case.
