Haiti - Politic : «Gouvènman an lakay ou» a shower of announcements in La Gonâve
Saturday, before a large and friendly assistance, the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, co-chaired with President Michel Martelly, the 10th Edition of the "Gouvènman an lakay ou" Program, in La Gonâve, with the participation of several ministers and representatives of social movements on the island.

The Government has expressed its commitment to support the people of La Gonâve, to develop the island. "We work to develop our islands, such as La Gonâve, La Tortue, Ile-à-Vache, which for so long have been abandoned. In view of the announcements made, obviously, the Government moves from rhetoric to action to the satisfaction of the population of the island. Among the many commitments include the following:

Economy :
The Government Martelly / Lamothe is committed to help the mutual solidarity gathering twenty merchant associations of the island. To this end, it decided to make available to the Mutual 1,750,000 gourdes. This fund will enable the Mutual to strengthen and it will benefit 300 merchant members. The Government plans to contribute more to this structure;

The Special Plan of La Gonâve will now include a mutual of fishermen to better focus government support in this sector. The Ministry of Agriculture is committed to funding the establishment of mutual solidarity of crab fishermen;

48 small and medium enterprises will benefit each financial support of 50,000 gourdes of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

Agriculture :
Through the Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development, the Government is planning to hold a forum on the development and regulation of the fisheries sector in the country, pending the submission to Parliament of a draft legislation. Small fishing boats, motors, fishing kits, 180 ice boxes fishing igloo, 180 machetes and bowls were distributed to fishermen associations of La Gonâve. 23 boats as well as Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs) are already available to these associations;

Two fishing shops will soon be built on the island;

A fishing village will be built;

The Ministry of Agriculture will make the rehabilitation of mangroves, treatment and soil conservation in La Gonâve;

A thousand agricultural tools were also distributed to farmers.

Security / Justice :
Jean Renel Sanon, the Minister of Justice and Public Security announced that arrangements had been to strengthen security on the island. The staff of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) deployed at La Gonâve will more than double, from 21 to 50.

In addition, the Ministry announced the reconstruction of the Polcie Station of Anse-à-Galet and drastic measures to fight against corruption in the judiciary.

To meet the needs of women of La Gonâve that require more attention from the judiciary about female victims of various abuses, steps have been taken to improve the lives of these women.



Health :
Dr. Florence Duperval Guillaume, Minister of Public Health and Population (MSPP) announced the arrival of an ambulance boat to La Gonâve as well as free caesarean section;

An office of the MSPP will be installed shortly on the island, to better meet the needs of the population health.

The support of 11 health centers by the Ministry of Public Health;

The island already has two ambulances.

Infrastructures :
The Government Martelly / Lamothe plans to invest 5 million dollars in road infrastructure projects, tourism, health, educational, agricultural, urban renewal in La Gonâve. Of this amount, $2.5 million is intended primarily for the construction of a tourist village, a fishing village and 200 social housing;

In addition to the educational infrastructure that will be built on the island, the Government plans to carry out urban renewal works. the construction of 200 social housing units in Pointe-à-Raquette; the rehabilitation of the health center; concreting of streets in Anse-à-Galet and Pointe-à-Raquette; the construction of the road linking the two towns; the rehabilitation of port of Anse-à-Galet ;

200 new micro-retained for facilitate the availability of water will be built, a rare resource to La Gonâve. Four micro-dams have already been completed. Of pathways will be built in areas with high agricultural potential, to facilitate the production, processing and marketing on the Island;

Several infrastructure projects and projects are already running in La Gonâve, such as: road sections, playgrounds, health center;

La Gonâve now will have its own construction equipment and road maintenance;

Prime Minister proceeded to the inauguration of the Place de la Révolution freshly renovated in Anse-à-Galets.

Education :
In the educational field, five scholarships of excellence were awarded to students who have earned the highest marks in the final examinations of years of study. Ten additional scholarships will be awarded to young of La Gonâve;

Tourism :
Stéphanie Balmir Villedrouin, the Minister of Tourism and Creative Industries (MTIC) reported on the interventions in La Gonâve, including 10 million gourdes to develop attractions in La Gonâve. MTPTC will undertake drainage of beaches. Development of tourist attractions, infrastructure construction. The Tourism Ministry is committed to support the people on the island to find uncorked in the tourism businesses in the Côte-des-Arcadins. Among the actions it intends to take there is rehabilitation of the Pointe West Beach (Nan pwent).

Social :
3,000 families benefit regularly of solidarity voucher 2,000 others receive emergency voucher.

In addition to the school canteen, four community restaurants operate at La Gonâve to fight against food insecurity.
