Haiti - Elections : The International began to fund the electoral process
While expressing optimism about the disbursement of funds pledged by the international community, Gaillot Dorsinvil, President of the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) indicated Monday that the promised funds were still not released and only Brazil had fulfilled its commitments to date ($500.000). Adding that if the Operation Centers and Verification (Centres d’Opération et de Vérification COV) were operational today, it was thanks to the funds of the Treasury and not with the international assistance.

Last Thursday Edmond Mulet, the head of the UN Mission for Stabilization in Haiti (MINUSTAH) was confident that the next disbursement of funds pledged by the international community to achieve the next election. He said that there had been substantial contributions from the United States and the European Union and Brazil.

If it is true that the United States has just granted 5 million dollars for the elections of November, Mr. Mulet goes a little quickly with the European Union (UE) which did not determine yet on which date it intended to withdraw the 5 million euros promised.

Friday, Pierre-Louis Opont, the Director General of the CEP has confirmed that only Brazil and the United States had until now fact their "payment". He was nevertheless optimistic about the availability of EU funds during the election process and confirmed that Canada should proceed in its turn with the withdrawal of its engagements the next week. Recalling that the total budget of the elections rises to 29 million dollars, including $ 7.03 million provided by the Haitian State.

Edmond Mulet alluded to for the first time the possibility of a second round, indicating that other funding may be needed, probably in January.
