Haiti - Politic : President Martelly has the support of Chancellor Angela Merkel
Wednesday President Michel Martelly, met for more than an hour with German Chancellor Angela Merkel. It was discussed among other of elections, the mandate of the Minustah, of Haiti's reconstruction and the establishment of German companies in Haiti.

Thanking the President Martelly for this visit, Merkel took the opportunity to congratulate him on the progress made in Haiti by his Administration. She also promised the support of Germany in the process of sustainable development in Haiti. She expressed to the President of Haiti, her desire to strengthen bilateral relations and promote German investments in the country, citing among other things, investment possibilities in electricity grids, renewable energy and agricultural development.

Later in the day, at Bellevue Palace, the President Martelly had an audience with the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Joachim Gauck, in which he thanked the German Government and people for their solidarity with the people Haitian and listed the many benefits that would have German entrepreneurs to invest their capital in the country.

At a joint press conference, the President Martelly explained to the Chancellor the political difficulties that led to postpone for the fifth time the holding of elections because of the persistent blockade in the Senate by a sector of the opposition. Noting that if the electoral law is not ratified by the Senate, January 12, after a certain number of parliamentarians will have left their seats, there will no longer possibility of blocking ""[...] The situation will become particular because another third of the Senate will go. At this point, the President of the Republic, who is responsible for guaranteeing the proper functioning of national institutions, as provided in Article 136 of the Constitution, will find the right formula to go to the polls that day."

Angela Merkel expressed to President Martelly, her confidence that Haiti reaches the desired political stability and hoped that the legislative elections will be held before the presidential of autumn 2015.

During these two high-level meetings, the President Martelly has extended an invitation to visit Haiti before the end of its mandate. An invitation on which the Chancellor and the German President has promised to look.
