Haiti - Education : 6th World Innovation Summit in Doha (Qatar)

The 6th World Innovative Summit for Education (WISE) will

convene from 4 to 6 November 2014 in Doha, Qatar, over 1,000 experts and practitioners in the field of education, as well as leaders of national and international organizations from over 110 countries to exchange experiences and innovations that will allow meet the challenges of 21st Century in education around the theme "Imagine-Create-Learn: Creativity at the Heart of Education".

Michèle D. Pierre-Louis, President of the Knowledge and Freedom Foundation (FOKAL) invited to this global event, Thursday, Nov. 6 will host a session on Haiti entitled "School Creativity in a Fragile State: Lessons from Haiti", that will encourage discussion in particular on questions such as :

  • How to design creative programs in connection with the development of less developed countries?

  • How to link creativity, quality of education and economic and social needs of communities?

  • What values ​​do we want to promote?

Michèle D. Pierre-Louis will rely primarily on two exemplary initiatives conducted in rural areas by organizations of civil society:

  • The Schools Network of Information Technology, Communication and Energy (REPTICE) program, n initiative of the College of Coastal Beach which electrifies a dozen public schools in rural areas and provide them with digital tools with the support of the Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training and Haïti Futur;

  • Le réseau des Écoles vertes, initiative de l’Association des originaires de Gros Morne qui développe une démarche de reboisement et de culture maraichère avec les enseignants, les parents et les élèves de 65 écoles.

  • The network of Green School, an initiative of the Association of originating from Gros Morne which develops an approach to reforestation and vegetable growing with teachers, parents and students from 65 schools.

An overview of the WISE partnership engaged for 3 years with FOKAL, at the initiative of the Qatar Foundation, will also be presented.
