Haiti - Politic : Fruitful Mission in Ecuador
On Monday, President Michel Martelly, accompanied by the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, met at the National Palace Carondelet of Quito with his counterpart Rafael Correa, in the framework of his 24-hours official visit to Ecuador.

After a head-to-head, the two Heads of State chaired a fruitful working session between the official delegations of the two countries attended including by Ricardo Patino, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gabriela Rosero, Secretary for International Cooperation, René Ramirez, Secretary of Higher Education, Science and Technology, the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, the Minister of Defence, Lener Renauld, and Claude Raymond, Director of the migration.

They took the opportunity to address, among other key issues such as air transport and support of Ecuador to the establishment of a defense force in Haiti and also the various areas of cooperation with Ecuador such as strengthening the control of migration, the training of 40 aspiring soldiers in military training schools of Ecuador, helping the disabled, the awards of 40 scholarships to Haitian students in Ecuador in the fields of science and technology and advice and assistance for banana cultivation in Haiti.

Another issue addressed was the technical and scientific cooperation. Haiti presented seven assistance projects, which must be reviewed and analyzed by the Technical Secretariat for subsequent agreements they are : the responsible natural resource exploration; identification of the population living in poverty; the response system to major natural hazards; the strengthening of the system of data collection; the system strengthening of the decentralized planning; strengthening the management of economic affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the strengthening of management of documentation and Haitian archives in the same ministry.


Furthermore, the opening of an air link with Haiti by the Ecuadorian airline TAME was also discussed.

After the bilateral meeting, in a joint press conference with his host, President Martelly thanked the Ecuadorian government for its warm welcome and its determination to support the administration in its vision of development and gave a positive assessment of that day of discussions. He also particularly praised the Ecuadorian cooperation in strengthening the "Military Engineering" program.

President Martelly announced that on December 10, will be held in Port-au-Prince, the first working session of the "Bilateral Joint Committee", adding that the session "clearly reflects the desire of both countries to strengthen ties in order to increase the impact of this fruitful cooperation."

The Head of State has concluded his day and his official visit to the Embassy of Haiti in Ecuador, where in a very warm atmosphere, he was able to speak with members of the Haitian community.
