Haiti - Cuba : Literacy, signing of a new agreement 15/12/2014 09:28:36 To this end, an agreement was reached between the two countries on the implementation of the 6th stage of the national literacy campaign, which focuses on making available to the Government of Haiti the Cuban learning methods "Wi mwen kapab" and "Aprann" as well as Cuban specialists to oversee the the implementation team of the campaign. "In this 6th stage, is expected to literate about 200,000 Haitians," said Ena Elsa Velázquez adding "I think this is an altruistic act of any government to think out of ignorance its people by teaching them to read and write [...] We will ensure that this campaign is a continued success and permits to move forward on the path of education for the people of Haiti." Moreover, the Cuban Minister has invited his counterpart to participate in "Pedagogía 2015" to be held from 26 to 30 January 2015, where will be signed another labor agreement for training and improvement of Haitian teachers. Also note that some thirty school principals will meet in Cuba in January, for a professional internship in Cuban schools. Recall that Cuba has since 1999, a brigade of teachers in Haiti, which has contributed so far, to literate over 400,000 Haitians. The Minister Manigat has welcomed the signing of the agreement resulting of the ministry initiatives for the upgrading of the education system in order to provide quality education for all Haitian children "Today is a historic day in the cooperation relations between the two countries in education. Cuba is a model in the Caribbean and Latin America. The challenge is great, but Haiti is committed to working."
