At the First "Forum of Dominican diplomacy" which ended Friday, Temístocles Montas, Dominican Minister of Economy, Planning and Development has declared to the Temístocles Montas, Dominican Minister of Economy, Planning and Development has that Haiti is the highest priority for the foreign policy of his country, "not only because of the importance in economic terms but especially for the implications of the immigration pressure on the Dominican nation and the implementation of major national development goals." In his speech, he stated that according to projections of The Millenium Project : Latinoamérica 2030 and of Frederick S. Pardee Center for Internacional Futures of the University of Denver, inequalities between the Dominican Republic and Haiti, will increase by 2030, "when the objectives set out in the National Development Strategy (for DR) will be achieved." The Minister indicated that according to these reports, in 2030, the island of the population will reach 25 million inhabitants and Gross Domestic Product per capita (GDP), in the Dominican Republic will be US $ 12,000 in 2013 (US $ 5.296 in 2010 ) while for Haiti it will be US $ 1.043 (US $ 720 in 2010) "This means that the income gap between the two countries will increase if current trends continue [per capita GDP in Haiti accounted for 13.6% of Dominican GDP (2010) and will only represent 9% in 2030]. Temístocles Montas stressed that the migration pressure from Haiti to the Dominican Republic, will tend to exacerbate over the current migration flows. SL/ HaitiLibre
