Haiti - Elections : Partial or general, nothing is yet decided

To the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP), the choice to hold two elections (legislative and municipal) followed by a presidential election or a single General Election this year is not yet decided. Commissions are currently working on this issue, but also among others on the financial and technical resources and calendar. The legal department of CEP is working on the text and a decree to provide a legal framework for the one or future Documents to be submitted for discussion to the legal advisers of President Martelly.

Monday, in the perspective of the realization of the next elections, the CEP will meet its financial partners, including the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), but also the Minustah for logistics and security.

Given the weakness of public finances of the Haitian government and high costs that represent the organization of elections, several international financial partners wish to hold one general election, on the one hand to reduce costs, but also to limit the number of disorder opportunity and consequences. According to information available, of risk of unrest in several departments, including the Artibonite, Centre, Grand Anse and Southeast are expected...
