Haiti - Politic : Special attention to Haiti in the «Brussels Declaration»
Thursday in Brussels (Belgium) President Michel Martelly, spoke at the Summit of the European Union and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC-EU)

During the second and last day, which saw the Heads of State and Government of the EU-CELAC and the Presidents of the European Council and of the uropean Commission to express their common will to work towards strengthening bilateral dialogue national, the Head of State of Haiti, reminded to the actors the determination of his administration to meet the development challenges through direct investment in Haiti.

In his speech, the President Martelly welcomed the attention given to Haiti in the "Brussels Declaration" adopted by the leaders during the Summit. Indeed, through this declaration, which describes the common vision that unites nations present at the Summit, the protagonists say "recognize the need to continue to support Haiti in its efforts to reduce extreme poverty and to achieve inclusive, equitable and sustainable development for the benefit of the Haitian people."

"Improving governance and security is also essential to ensure and maximize the impact of our development efforts. I am confident that at the next EU-CELAC Summit, my successor will be able to present the progress made in Haiti thanks to this Brussels Declaration," declared the Head of State.

After the adoption of the "Brussels Declaration" by the participants and the closing ceremony, the President Martelly has co-chaired a mini high-level summit CARIFORUM and uropean Union, together with the Secretary General of CARICOM, Irwin Larocque. This mini summit was held on key topics such as the reconstruction of Haiti, regional integration or climate change and major natural hazards. This mini-summit is an additional window to highlight the efforts of the current administration in Haiti and explore new avenues of development.

The Head of State completed its stay in Brussels with a meeting with the Haitian community in Belgium. Warmly welcomed by his countrymen, the President Martelly took the opportunity to reiterated its commitment to the Haitian Diaspora and reiterated its importance in the new process of construction of the new Haiti.
