Haiti - Economy : The CCIH concerned about the taking hostage of the country
In a note, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Haiti (CCIH) expressed concern about the political crisis holding the country in hostage, characterized by protests and social unrest, an atmosphere of mistrust towards the electoral officials and the non-participation of a candidate in the second round.

The CCIH deplores the violent protests causing the destruction of private and public property and recalls that the current situation may aggravate the monetary imbalance and further weaken the national economy, with more adverse effects on the population, especially the segments most vulnerable.

CCIH, national institution established in 1895 and recognized of public utility in 1907, gathering 10 departmental Chambers, concerned about the ongoing disorder of such a context and willing to contribute to real initiatives to unblock the impasse, wishes to advise :

  • That it conceives with difficulties the holding of next election without the prior agreement of the parties ;
  • That it urges to the reshuffle of the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) as recommended by the Independent Electoral Commission of Evaluation and demands, the implementation of all the recommendations of the Commission ;
  • That it appeals institutional forces of the country to come together to orient the proposals for dialogue, particularly in obtaining a satisfactory agreement between the different political actors.

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Haiti, remains convinced that the legitimacy of the next government and the stable development of the economic, political and social of our country, require a consolidation of the electoral process.
