Haiti - Security : Criminality is down according to PM

Tuesday in press conference at the Primature, the Prime Minister, Enex Jean-Charles, also President of the Superior Council of the National Police (CSPN), accompanied by Camille Edouard Jr., Minister of Justice and Public Security, François Anick Joseph, Minister of Interior and Territorial Communities and the high command of the PNH, declared "We want to draw everyone's attention to the fact that for the month of June 2016 we found in the statistics that are available at the PNH that there is a real decrease in acts of banditry compared to the first month of 2016 and compared to the same period of last year [The fatal shooting have gone from 68 to 35 in June, including 28 in the West department] and only 1 case of kidnapping in June [note that the Commissioner Frantz Lerebours, Spokesman of the PNH, evokes 3 cases for his part]."

The Head of Government explained that some spectacular incidents, give the impression of an increase in crime which is not the case emphasizing "[...] We must also say that we faced during these last days to acts, that are of acts that were made in order to scare people [...]

In each case investigations are conducted, there are investigations that are accomplished other continuing, there are arrests that have been made and we are on the way to reveal to the people who are the perpetrators, co-perpetrators, accomplices and up the intellectual perpetrator [...]

[...] To address this situation since last week we have, particularly in areas where there was the greatest terror, strengthen police presence, we increase controls on vehicles, especially those with tinted windows and controls on motorcycles. We have started a collaboration with private companies and other associations of the society to better counter the attacks of these criminals.

[...] We ask the population to remain calm, continue to go about their business, all measures are taken for the police provides security for the population, the security of domestic enterprises. At the same time we ask the population, to the business owners to cooperate with the police to provide the police when it is needed, information that can enable us to move more quickly in investigations because this collaboration is necessary for us to have a better efficiency at national police [...]"
