Haiti - Politic : Call for emergency funds, the international community timid 21/10/2016 09:26:17
Thursday, 10 days after the launch by the United Nations in Geneva (Monday 10 October) of a flash appeal for humanitarian funds of nearly $120 million to help Haiti after the devastating passage of Hurricane Matthew https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-18897-haiti-flash-un-launches-a-$120m-flash-appeal-for-haiti.html the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, during a meeting with the General Assembly, asked once again to donors to respond to the call for emergency funds, which is currently funded at only 22%.
Let's recall that last Saturday, Ban had expressed disappointment at the lack of response from the international community which after 6 days had contributed only 15.6 million dollars (13%) "I am disappointed by the response of the international community [...] I urge the major donors to lend their helpful hand," had stated the Secretary General to the airport Toussaint Louverture during his visit to Haiti https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-18947-haiti-politic-ban-ki-moon-on-site-discovers-the-extent-of-destruction.html while acknowledging "some fatigue on the part of some countries" to contrinute https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-18965-haiti-news-zapping-politics.html
"I thank the donors for their initial support. But I have to remind the General Assembly that this call is only funded at 22% (26.4 million). We urgently need more resources," declared Ban Ki-moon.
