Haiti - FLASH : Increase in fuels, this is only the beginning !

The increases in fuel prices at the pump in effect since Monday after the agreement between the Public Transport Unions and the Government are only the beginning of a series of increases. The Government intend to remove 100% of the subsidy it pays to the sector, by 1 October 2017, confirmed Monday Jude Alix Patrick Solomon, the Minister of Economy, one of the signatory of this agreement.
According to Article 9 of the agreement signed between the government and the trade unions, of adjustments are provided of +6 Gdes for the gallon of gasoline, +5 Gdes for the gallon of diesel and +4 Gdes for the gallon of Keroene to each arrival of a tanker ship in Haiti (around the 28th of each month according to the National Association of Distributors and Importers of Petroleum Products). This will cause at least 5 more successive increases...
The Ministers Pierre Marie Du Meny (Trade) and Jude Alix Patrick Salomon (Economy) states that as of 1 October, the decree of 9 March 1995 governing the adjustment of fuel prices will enter into force and will allow the variation of the prices of the fuels according to the international market price (downwards or upwards)...
In summary, as of October 1, 2017 (based on 5 tanker shipments) the gasoline that was sold before May 16, 189 gourdes per gallon will cost about 254 Gourdes; The diesel that was sold 149 Gourdes will cost about 204 Gourdes and the gallon of kerosene that was sold 148 Gourdes will cost 193 Gourdes...
