Haiti - FLASH : Installation of members of the Commission of the Superior Council of Wages

Wednesday, at the National Palace, President Jovenel Moïse, accompanied by his wife Martine and Prime Minister Jack Guy Lafontant, proceeded to the installation of members of the Superior Council of Wages (CSS) and those of the National Commission for the Modernization of Public Transport. An amplification of the two decrees was given to each member of these different entities.

In the presence of members of the Government and Parliament, members of the Trade Union of Workers, of business and labor sector, and members of the National Commission and of CSS, the Head of State stressed "The Superior Council of Wages will work to the maintain of the purchasing power of the workers. It will take measures to enable our businesses and industries to continue to function for the satisfaction of workers and employers."

The President of the Republic promised that the Government will take the necessary measures to socially support the workers so that they can be productive and live better with their families.

Members of the CSS :

Gouvernement : Renan Hédouville, Guerline Jean-Louis, Louis Pierre Joseph ;

Employer sector : Gilbert Durand, Hugo Elien, Jean-Max Bazin ;

Union sector : Pierre Joseph Polycarpe, Fritz Charles, Dominique St-Eloi.

Note that the trade unionist Saint-Éloi Dominique was not present at the installation ceremony, because according to him the other two members who represent the trade union sector, do not have the confidence of the workers in the factories.

According to Roosevelt Bellevue, the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, the members of the CSS have 10 days to produce a report proposing an adjustment of the minimum wage by sector.

In addition, the Head of State said that "The National Commission for the Modernization of Public Transport will work for the professionalization of the public transport system in Haiti. It must propose standards in order to enable citizens to travel in good conditions." He gave assurances that his Administration would provide the necessary assistance to drivers in the public transport sector to facilitate the purchase of new vehicles for service, the obtention of a social security card and the execution of the agreement of 13 May 2017 between the Haitian State and the trade union of the Transport sector.
