Haiti - Justice : Prosecution against Duvalier, Jean William Jeanty septic
Jean William Jeanty Senator of the opposition "Konbit pou Bati Ayiti (KONBA)" says he is septic on the possibility to prosecute the former dictator Jean-Claude Duvalier, [back in Haiti since January 16, 2010, after 25 years of exile in France], before the Haitian justice.

The senator does not believe, despite complaints from victims, filed against the former dictator, that justice can be rendered in a judicial system "corrupt and sold" to those who just pay the most. "I do not think that these conditions correspond to the approach of the victims." According to him, "the country was not ready to welcome a former head of state, responsible for numerous violations of human rights in a society that is facing several challenges, including political instability."

Evans Paul, former presidential candidate for the "Alliance Démocratique" coalition, former political prisoner under Duvalier, says he does not seek revenge. "Reconciliation is consistent with the law". It is not about to punish the regime for the thousands of crimes committed, but to obtain justice.

For its part, Mortimer Antonal the Coordinator of the Platform of Organizations for Human Rights Haiti (POHDH), believes that "the reconciliation can not be based on impunity" and calls upon the United Nations (UN) and the Organization of American States (OAS) to support the Haitian justice system in this case and beyond the former dictator, prosecute all those who contributed to this government.
