As we observe a sharp rise in violence and killings in Haiti, especially in the metropolitan area since the departure of the military MINUSTAH, the Dominican Ministry of Defense has decided to increase once again the security along the border with Haiti.

Lieutenant-General Rubén Darío Paulino Sem, Minister of Defense, confirmed that due to the departure of Minustah, especially the withdrawal of 400 UN soldiers assigned to border surveillance in Haiti and of information obtained on the prevailing insecurity situation in the neighboring country, 800 additional soldiers were deployed in support to protect the border area from any risk of Haitian overflowing...

Recall that since last July the National Police of Haiti (PNH) and that of the Dominican Republic (PND) has set up liaison officers in both countries to facilitate the exchange of information to help fight against criminality. The decision to strengthen border security was made following information obtained from United Nations Police Chief Unpol de la Minustah in Haiti, just before the withdrawal of the UN Mission.
