Haiti - Security : "The Haitian army has never been dissolved but demobilized» dixit PM
25/10/2017 11:15:45

Haiti - Security :

Monday at a press conference, Prime Minister Lafontant speaking on the remobilization of the army, promised that after the launch of the recruitment process initiated by Hervé Denis, the Minister of Defense, last July, https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-21566-haiti-notice-military-recruitment-extended-registrations.html which saw the registration of 2,350 young people including 350 girls, all remaining steps for the remobilization of the army will be crossed in transparency without providing more information on the progress of the process...

He reiterates that this new army of Haiti will have another mission and another direction than that of the past "it will be an army at the service of the population and not a tormenting army [...]" But, will this remobilization be effective on November 18 (symbolic date of the decisive victory of the battle of Vertière) ? On this point, the Prime Minister avoids answering, recalling only that the 1987 Constitution stipulates that "The country has two security forces: the Armed Forces of Haiti and the National Police," stressing « there has never been a dissolution of the Armed Forces of Haiti (FAdH) but only an administrative measure of demobilization of this military force," without providing other details or agenda, explaining this lack of information for reasons of national security...

While waiting for the promised transparency, the population remains in the fog...
