Haiti - NEWS FLASH : The Government ready to give a passport to Aristide (UPDATE 6h20pm) 31/01/2011 16:23:29 In a statement, the Foreign Ministry said that it was ready to give a passport to the former president, who lives in exile in South Africa, if the request was made. "The Government of the Republic gives the assurance that once filed, such a request will be honored promptly" specifies the text, which also denies that a passport application was refused to Mr. Aristide. UPDATE 1 - "The Council of Ministers, under the leadership of President Rene Preval, decided that a diplomatic passport be issued to President Aristide, if he asks for it" said Fritz Longchamp, General Secretary for the Presidency. UPDATE 2 - In a letter,the lawyer of the former President Aristide, asked the Haitian Government that the preparations for the return of Aristide begins immediately. He also asked the Government of Haiti, to engage a dialogue with the South African Government in order to guarantee the immediate return of Aristide and also that the safety of the latter is guaranteed.
