Haiti - Politic : Moïse visiting the Parc Urbain de Martissant makes promises

Friday, President Jovenel Moïse, accompanied by Prime Minister Jack Guy Lafontant and Fritz Caillot, the Minister of Public Works, visited the Martissant National Urban Park (Habitation Leclerc), where he was welcomed by Michèle Duvivier Pierre-Louis, President of the "Fondasyon Konesans ak Libète" (FOKAL). It should be noted that Patrick Gaspard, advisor to former President Obama and current President of the Open Society Foundation, the main funder of FOKAL, also took part in this visit.

Mrs. Pierre Louis recalled that in 2007 Habitation Leclerc with an area of 17 hectares, was declared of public utility by President René Préval, who had entrusted the management to FOKAL. The Park, which has been a protected area in Haiti since 2017, includes, among others, medicinal herb gardens, a library, a cultural center and play areas for children.

This visit was an opportunity for the Head of State to advocate for the promotion of the public-private-community partnership for a better integration of the population on major issues. Determined to channel international aid according to the priorities of the population, Moïse presented, from the outset, the Martissant Park as a model of results obtained through effective assistance from international donors "The Urban National Park Martissant is a Success Story we will take the opportunity to set up labor-intensive work, especially in the protection of watersheds in Martissant. As part of the continuity of the State, the Government undertakes to support the operating budget of this Park.

I am impressed by all that I have seen and I encourage the donors to contribute to support the FOKAL."

In addition, reiterating his will to rehabilitate the environment of the country to offer a pleasant living environment to all Haitians Moïse mentioned the innovative program "Jere Pye bwa w", which will support, with other initiatives, the efforts of the Haitian state to improve the image of the country's environment. Explaining that the "Jere Pye bwa w" program will allow each citizen involved to benefit from an allocation for the fruit trees placed under his protection for the time necessary for them to reach maturity.
