Haiti - FLASH : Our Grenadières seek to leave Nicaragua urgently

Following the serious popular violence that shakes Nicaragua that have made nearly 30 dead for almost 5 days, the CONCACAF because of the security turmoil has suspended Sunday, April 22, the final phase of elimination of the 6th Edition of the U-17 Women's World Cup FIFA, Uruguay 2018, when our Grenadières qualified for the semi-finals of the competition following their victory [2-0] at the expense of the host country https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-24170-haiti-uruguay-2018-3rd-qualifying-phase-victory-of-haiti-over-nicaragua-[2-0].html

All foreign delegations participating in this pre-FIFA / CONCACAF pre-World phase have been asked to take all necessary steps to leave urgently this country.

President Moïse via his Chief of Staff, Wilson Laleau, offered to make available to the FHF a charter plane to get us out of the country, but the delegation is waiting for the instructions of the Concacaf and the safety provisions arrested to circulate in this barricaded city, where scenes of looting and violent clashes with the police make the streets very dangerous and that it would take a big escort to leave the hotel and return to the airport eventually explains the FHF.

"For the moment, our young Grenadières are doing well and remain anxious refugees at the Hilton Princess hotel in Managua". The Haitian delegation is composed of 28 people, 21 players, 1 leader, 1 journalist and 5 technical managers; in Managua but in another Hotel there are also two parents who came specifically to support their children.

"The FHF thanks the Government of Haiti for the assistance offered, also all our compatriots who have expressed their solidarity and sympathy; we want to reassure them that the group is going well and waiting to leave the country."

Last minute : This Monday morning, our young U-17 Granadières were still in Managua for failing to find flights to leave the country. Meanwhile, the Haitian delegation for security reasons has been transferred from the Hilton Hotel to the Barcelo hotel located on a hill in a safer area, informs Yves Jean Bart President of the FHF.

A return to calm is to hope, President Daniel Ortega, given the gravity of the situation, having decided to cancel Sunday its reform on the pensions at the origin of these violent clashes between demonstrators and police, which is are transformed into rebellion against the power in place.
