Jacmel - Justice : A sound and equitable justice

As part of a series of discussions and of legal research organized by the students in 4th year of law school of Jacmel, an activity called "Thursday Justice" was held last week under the theme "The Haitian judicial power and its and organization." This activity aims to establish a spirit of collaboration among all students of the Faculty of Law and transform the space into a true center of debate and reflection to identify the main problems that the judiciary faces.

Several students of different classes of law school of the city took part in the conference debate, lively, led by Jeffrey Clark Lochard and Jean Louis Lamarre, two students in grade 4.

Jeffrey Clark Lochard, in his speech said that the Haitian justice system is neither monistic nor dualistic, it is a system of exception "The judiciary as has been written into the constitution of 1987 was independent. But more often, the executive has a grip on that of the judiciary. This is a real handicap for the proper functioning of the judiciary."

Mathurin Royal, fourth year student of law, one of the members of the organizing committee, in an exclusive interview with Haitilibre, has declared that a charge book (cahier de charge) with the various recommendations and proposals will be submitted at the end of this series of debates, to the new government and to the Parliament in order to reach to have a sound and equitable justice.

For his part, John Coffy student in law and economics at the Faculty of Gonaives, applauded the initiative taken by the students of Jacmel, which could be beneficial to the people "The state should rethink the functioning of the justice system" pleading in favor of a real empowerment of the legal apparatus of the country.

Some participants, in their interventions have strongly criticized the Haitian authorities who appoint some incompetent people within the judicial system to satisfy their political desires. Participants hope that the country's authorities will consider their recommendations.
