Haiti - DR : More 80% of Haitians controlled in Santiago, illegal
On the orders of Lieutenant General Máximo William Muñoz Delgado of the Directorate General of Migration (DGM), a vast migratory control operation was carried out in coordination with the Mayor of the city of Santiago in the Dominican Republic. On Thursday morning in the early hours of the day, teams of inspectors, agents of the DGM and the town hall of Santiago, were deployed simultaneously in several areas of the city, with the support of the military, the National Police and in coordination with the Public Ministry.

During these operations 451 Haitians were arrested and controlled. After verification, 386 Haitians (more than 85%) were in an irregular migration situation and were taken to the Dajabon border post to be deported to Haiti.

Most of our arrested compatriots were dedicated to the sale of various products in the streets, avenues and public squares, an activity prohibited by the mayor who wants to free the sidewalks, both of traders Haitians and Dominicans who exercises more without a license in good standing, a license out of reach for Haitians in an irregular situation.

Recall that it is more and more frequent since the beginning of the year, that migration control operations are executed in Santiago and each time, it is by hundreds that our compatriots in an irregular situation are arrested and deported to Haiti.
