Haiti - Health : The new Hospital of the State University of Haiti completed at 80%
On Monday, Dr. Lauré Adrien, Director General of the Ministry of Public Health accompanied by Dr. Jessy Colimon, Executive Director of the Hospital of the State University of Haiti (HUEH) and Dr. Alix Lassègue, Technical Advisor at the Ministry provided an update on the situation of the Hospital of the State University of Haiti (HUEH).

Lauré Adrien after having diagnosed the problems related to the functioning of the HUEH, Dr. Jessy Colimon, for her part, advocated for a better hospital organization, the respect of the dignity and the rights of the patients, as well as the improvement of the working conditions of health personnel for better quality of health care service.

Alix Lassègue explained that studies have been conducted to achieve a real change and a new modern hospital with a new form of governance including a medical permanence. Doctors will be available 24/24, political and financial decisions are considered to adjust the salary grid. In order to reduce the flow of patients arriving at HUEH, the health authorities are working hard to strengthen the peripheral emergency centers and are working diligently to reduce the number of hospitalization times in the emergency department.

Engineer Reynold Pauyo Head of the Technical Implementation Unit of the Ministry of Economy Project Manager of the HUEH Reconstruction Project has from the begenning reported on the difficulties encountered by the HUEH in welcoming patients and providing them with the same efficiency during the reconstruction period. "Despite the state's foresight to build reference community hospitals to reduce the number of of patients at the General Hospital, the latter usually prefer to go to the HUEH," announcing the upcoming opening of the community hospital of Delmas 2. Moreover, concerning the impact of the closure of the 176-bed obstetric hospital of Médecins Sans Frontières https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-25038-haiti-humanitarian-doctors-without-borders-closes-2-major-hospitals-in-haiti.html , he indicated that the Ministry was making all the necessary arrangements to strengthen the maternity and pediatric services at the Delmas hospital 33 in order to mitigate the impact of the departure of Médecins Sans Frontières which offered these services.
