Haiti - Health : Reconstruction of HUEH, beginning on September 2013 02/08/2013 11:23:41
This contract that falls within the scope of a cooperation program has a total budget of $ 83,2 million with contributions from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) (25 million), the French Development Agency (AFD) (25 million) and the Republic of Haiti (33,2 million). The Technical Execution Unit (UTE) of the Ministry of Economy and Finance will ensure the conduct of this project in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health. The work that will executed by the Spanish firm "Teyico Elecnor" will begin in September 2013 and will last 34 months. The new hospital will be built on a total built surface of 25,800 square meters, in the most strict compliance of standards. In order to complete the offer of care and improve the functioning will be attached to the site, the former military hospital. Michaël De Landsheer, Executive Director of the UTE said it was a great challenge, since the hospital will continue to provide services to the population, throughout the duration of the work, noting that the new hospital will meet the requirements of a university referral hospital and that the supervision and quality control will be provided throughout the reconstruction. "It will be only only a beautiful building but a hospital with trained staff," assured Mrs. Florence Duperval Guillaume, the Minister of Health, convinced that the new hospital will project the image of the new health system in Haiti.  For his part, Patrick Nicoloso, Ambassador of France in Haiti declared, "I would like to insist on the implementation of this project which is that of a reform of the HUEH in order to provide the public better care and medical students a better education." For Reynold Pauyo, Technical Director in UTE "This hospital will be a reference for other health centers, when they have cases they can not handle, they would be abble to refer their patients to this modern center, with many easier."
